Everything About Getting Ready For Homecoming!

Ahhh, it's almost that time of year again! Homecoming season! Here's a few tips and tricks for planning out your homecoming dance look!

1. Start Saving Your Money - Formal dances can be expensive. Between the dress, the shoes, the hair appointment, the nail appointment, the ticket, and the after homecoming events, it all adds up! So make sure you start saving your money so you don't have to give up any of the stuff you've been dreaming about.

2. The Dress - The dress is probably the first thing we think about when we hear "homecoming dance", so make sure you start looking for your dress in advance, and limit yourself to stores in your budget. Nothings more disappointing than finding the perfect dress that doesn't have the perfect price. Also, sometimes alterations are needed and you want to get those done and out of the way as early as possible to avoid disappointments!

3. The Hair - The hairstyle you choose can change the whole look of your homecoming appearance, so it's important you choose it wisely! This is especially important if you're choosing a new hairstyle you've never had before. Try booking an appointment at your hair dressers a week before homecoming to "test-drive" the hairstyle you want, that way you can see if you'll like it or not for the actual event. If you are doing your hair yourself, you can practice at home as well.

4. The Make-Up - Whether you're choosing a simple look or a dramatic look, "test-driving" your makeup style is also important like the hair! If you choose the simple look and find that the makeup wears off quickly, you can try wearing a bit more on homecoming to avoid that happening. Sometimes we go overboard on the makeup for the event and realize we want to tone it down a bit later on. Remember homecoming is a special night that will involve a dark room and a lot of flash photography so even if you don't wear makeup or want a super simple look, try adding a little bit more to accentuate your features!

5. The Shoes - Remember dances are a long event with a lot of dancing so try to find comfortable shoes and wear them around the house a week before homecoming to avoid getting blisters!

Here's a cute hair and makeup look for homecoming that you might want to try out!

Everything About Healthy Eating!

Eating healthy is not as difficult as people tend to think it is. If you know what you're doing, it can be just as satisfying as eating that unhealthy junk we all love. So here are 5 tips to eat healthier and get ready for bikini season!

1. Control Your Portion Size - Overeating is super unhealthy, even if it is healthy food. Portion size is the most important top when it comes to healthy eating. So when making and eating meals, use your general sense of what a standard serving should look like and try to limit yourself to that. Sometime we don't realize how little we can eat with still feeling satisfied.

2. Eat Slower - Studies should that it takes up to 20 minutes for the brain to receive the message from your stomach that it's full. So the quicker you eat big meals, the more chance you have to over eat before your brain will know you're full. So take your time when eating, because it's another thing that will help you control your portion size.
3. Drink Water Before You Eat - One big mistake people make is thinking you're hungry when you are really just thirsty. So another tip for healthy eating is drinking water before you eat, so you will be able to quench your thirst and then be able to tell if your body is also hungry for food. If you're really just thirsty rather than hungry and you eat, you're just injecting extra calories you don't need.
4. Learn About Food - Another big tip for healthy eating is actually knowing what food is healthy to eat. Learning about fat, carbs, protein, and calories will help you understand why specific food is so healthy for you, and gear you towards healthier options.
5. Eat A Variety Of Foods - Eating the same type of foods all the time, even if they are healthy, aren't going to be as beneficial for your health. Sure, foods with protein are good for you, and you should eat them everyday, but you also need to make sure you are also getting your source of iron, vitamins, and fibre.

Everything About Day-To-Night Makeup

Have you ever spent the day at school or work and remembered you had plans that night but not enough time to get ready all over again? You really don't need to re-do your hair and makeup every time you have to attend different events in the same day. Sometimes all it takes is a little makeup touch ups and re-application to get a whole new look! Heres a few tips and tricks (and even a video tutorial) of how you can get a day-to-night makeup look.

1. The first thing you want to do is blot your face, with blotting papers or even toilet paper. This will help remove any excess oil that showed up on your face throughout the day! Remember, the key is to blot, not whip! We don't want the makeup coming off, only the oil.

2. The next thing you want to do is re-apply some light powder over the face. If you already have face makeup on you don't want to re-apply a thick layer because you don't want to look cakey, just refreshed.

3. Next, take a cu-tip and remove any mascara or eyeliner smudges around the eye. After the eyes are cleaned up you can re-apply a coat of mascara to wakeup those eyelashes that might have dropped throughout the day, and re-apply your eyeliner, which has probably vanished.

4. The next step is adding some blush to bring some life to your cheeks and make your self look more alive, and not like you just spent the whole day at work or school.

5. Last but not least, reapply a lip colour, preferably something a little more dramatic and fun than your daytime lip colour, as it is the night time and it's totally acceptable!

Here's a simple example of a woman walking you through her day-to-night makeup look!

Everything About The Benefits Of Fitness!

So we all know exercising and being physically active is good for you, but do we really know why. or exactly how good it actually is? Well i'll give you a heads up. It's SUPER good for us and can make a huge difference in our life and health in many ways, so sit back while I explain 5 main benefits of regular physical activity!

Controlling/Losing Weight: One of the most well-known benefits of physical activity is losing weight or preventing excess weight gain. Physical activity leads our body to burn calories, and the more physical activity you endure, the more calories you will burn. But one thing you may not be aware of is that physical activity doesn't always have to be a 30-minute workout everyday in order to see a difference or cure your daily dose of exercise. Little things like taking the stairs rather then the elevator, or taking your dog for a walk around the block work too!

Eliminates Poor Heath Conditions: Exercising on a regular basis, no matter how intense, can decrease your risks of heart disease and even prevent high blood pressure. Regular physical activity can also decrease your risk of strokes, diabetes, arthritis, and depression!

Puts You In A Good Mood: Many people who workout or indulge in some sort of daily physical activity will tell you that it doesn’t just help increase your health benefits, but also your spirits. Whether it’s doing yoga to relax, going for a jog to release stress, or a pumped up kick boxing session to release energy, physical activity can put you in an instantly better mood!
Promotes Better Sleep: One thing a lot of people may not know that regular physical activity can improve your sleeping habits. It can help you fall asleep better and stay asleep throughout the night leading you to a better nights sleep! However, intense exercise close to your bedtime is not recommended. Keep those heavy work-outs in the morning to help wake you up!
It’s Fun: Besides all the health benefits that regular physical activity provides, it’s also good to remember that it’s FUN! Whether it’s going for daily walks with your friends to gossip, or a Friday night zumba class, exercise provides you with something to do that will entertain you in a different way than your television or computer can!

Everything About Spring & Summer Fashion!

This Spring & Summer there are definitely some news trends when it comes to fashion! For you ladies that are interested in knowing what trends will be hot for the upcoming seasons and want to get a head start prepping your closets, here are a few previews!

Colour Blocking - This trend is all about bright colours, and a lot of them at that. Colour blocking is pairing 2 or 3 (or more, but you don't want to get carried away and look like a rainbow) different colours of clothing all in one outfit. For example, pairing a pair of bright teal skinny jeans, with a hot pink blouse, and a yellow clutch.

Bold Prints - When I say bold prints, I mean BOLD prints. This trend doesn't include faint designs in a shirt or sweater, we are talking oversize florals, mirror-like geometric shapes, even animal prints. Now unlike colour blocking, this trend doesn't involve pairing several different prints at once, but rather wearing one main piece at a time. For example, wearing black pant, a black tank top, and a bold printed blazer.

Metallics - This trend is all about wearing one signature basic metallic piece. This trend includes all different metallic colours, rather then limiting yourself to gold or silver. This trend is typically found in basic pieces such as a pair of paints, a pair of shoes, or a handbag.

Everything About Daily Skin Care Routines!

No matter what type of skin you have, it's important to remember that it needs a solid daily routine that protects and cares for it to look its absolute best! This post will go through a few skin care tips and daily routine products that will help keep our skin healthy and looking young, which is something I'm sure we all would LOVE!

The most important part of a daily skin routine is cleansing. If you are far too lazy or impatient to take on a full-on daily routine with multiple steps, it's really important that you at least remember to wash your face everyday, morning and night. Our skin goes through a lot during a day and even throughout the night, such as sweating, or merely collecting the bacteria from our hands when we touch our face, so it's important that we cleanse our skin well. However, it's important not to over-wash our face because that will start to strip our skin of it's natural oils, so sticking to twice a day will do the trick. It's especially important to wash your face at the end of the day and remove ALL make-up if you're wearing any! Keep water at a warm temperature, avoiding extreme cold or hot temperatures, because they can cause broken capillaries in our skin and make it look blotchy.

Toning is another step that should be including in a daily skin care routine. A toner helps to remove unwanted oil that's left on our skin, and really clean deep in our pores. It also will help remove any left over dirt or make-up that may not have came off while washing our face. Toners leave our skin feeling fresh and radiant. Unlike cleansers and moisturizers, which are more of a creamy substance, toners should be applied with a cotton pad because it's a water-like liquid. Pay special attention to your T-Zone in regards to applying the toner, and avoid putting it on around your eyes.

Another important part of a daily skin care routine is moisturizing. Although our skin does have natural oils that keep our skin moisturized, sometimes it needs a little more. Moisturizing our skin will help keep it feeling soft, looking young, and staying hydrated. If you have oily skin, it's still important to moisturize, however try to opt for an oil-free moisturizer. No matter what type of skin you may have, you should try to find a moisturizer that has a minimum of SPF 15 in it, or applying a sunscreen after your moisturizer. No matter what season and time of year it is, the sun is always there and your skin needs protection from it if you want it to look and feel healthier and younger!

If you're planning on adapting a new daily skin care routine and wondering where to start in terms of the brands of products, you might want to get some ideas from this video below by YouTube user HollyAnneRee, where she described her day and night skin care routine! Enjoy!

Everything About 5 Make-Up Essentials!

Whether you are a frequent makeup user, or are just starting to wear it, it's always good to have an idea of what products are really worth owning. Below are my personal top 5 most important makeup essentials!

1. Concealer - This makeup essential is used to cover up under-eye circle, for those nights we didn't get as much sleep as we'd like (which feels like every night, doesn't it?), and covering any pimples or spots on the face. Sometimes we find that the little imperfections on our face don't really require a full face of foundation and powder, but rather just a spot treatment like concealer.

2. Eyeliner - Whether you prefer a liquid eyeliner or a pencil eyeliner, this make-up essential will bring out your eyes in a bold way! Whether you prefer just applying it to the top of your eyelid to make your eyelashes appear thicker, or around the whole eye for a more dramatic look, eyeliner is great way to make your eyes come alive.

3. Mascara - I think it's pretty safe to say that every woman wishes their eyelashes could be thicker, darker, and longer. So which makeup product can help achieve this look? Mascara. Mascara comes in tons of different colours and types to acheive any eyelash look you want. You can choose a voluminous type to add overall volume, a curling type to give your eyelashes more curl, or a lengthening type to make your eyelashes appear longer. Sometimes you can find a good mascara that does all 3!

4. Lip Stick/Lip Gloss - Adding lip stick or lip gloss to your makeup routine is like putting the cherry on top of a sundae! There are so many colours and textures that will all give a different lip look. Lip products can be the bold or subtle statement that pull the whole makeup look together.

5. Blush/Bronzer - Whether you prefer blush or bronzer (or even both), these two face products can give our skin that extra glow that it may be lacking. Blush, typically applied to the cheeks, gives our skin a healthy dose of colour, especially on those pale and tired days. Bronzer is a good choice for adding a subtle tanned and bronzed look when we may not have seen the sun in weeks!

Everything About Healthy Haircare!

No matter what type of hair you have, chances are you want it to look and feel as healthy as possible. Many woman say that a person's hair is the first thing they notice when looking at someone. Healthy hair may come easier to some people than others, but it's an extremely important attribute to have! Chances are that we will most likely have hair on our head for the rest of our lives, so why not learn how to make it look the best it possibly can?

How many times have you seen celebrities on the red carpet with their perfect, shiny, and healthy hair and wished you had millions of dollars to get your hair to look just as good? Well, to be honest with you, it really doesn't cost much at all! Achieving healthy hair is easier and cheaper than you think, so here's a few tips and tricks to get yourself headed in the right direction towards healthy hair!

1. Avoid washing your hair more than 3 times a week. Now, I know starting off by telling you to not wash something may sound gross, but your hair really does not need to be washed as much as you think! Our hair produces natural oils, which keeps the hair shiny and hydrated which is super good for our hair. Over washing our hair will not give the oils a chance to provide any health benefits, and will also dry the hair out leaving it brittle. Try a dry-shampoo or a quick rinse with conditioner solely on the ends of your hair on the non-shampoo days!

2. Maintain a healthy diet. I'm pretty sure you've heard the expression, "You are what you eat", right? Well our hair definitely reflects when we are eating healthier! Eating a poor diet does absolutely nothing for our hair besides leaving it dull, dry, and even can cause hair loss. So try to look for healthier meal options with foods that provide you with some protein, omega-3, and iron to not only help your hair, but also yourself become healthier as well!

3. Deep-condition once a week. Deep-conditioners are pretty heavy and contain quite a bit of oil which is why its only recommended to use them once a week. However, they are extremely useful for moisturising the hair and adding shine for the weeks we may have over washed or over styled our hair with tools as well as repair damage! You should also find a natural homemade hair mask recipe you like on-line to use once a week on your hair as well for repair. (Hint: There's one recipe provided at the end of this post!)

4. Cut down on your hair products. Many woman, myself included, tend to forget the expression "Less is more", when it comes to applying hair products to our hair. If we notice our hairs a little frizzy, we run out and by anti-frizz serum, and if we notice our hairs a little flat, we run out and buy volumizing moose. We feel like we should have 1 product for each of our needs so we know we've covered them all. But applying too much product is really just leaving our hair heavy and weighing it down! Try to look for products that will cover more than just one of your hair needs. Also, make sure you read the back of the bottles for the recommended dose of product you should be using. If you have a short pixy cut, you definitely will not have to use the same amount of product as someone with super long hair!

5. Avoid using heat if possible. I know for many of us ladies, blow dryers and hair straighteners are our best friends in the morning. But no matter how good they may make our hair look, they also come with a lot of damage for our precious strands! To minimize this damage you can try a few things, such as air drying your hair to avoid using a blow dryer all together, purchasing a heat-protectant spray, and try rocking your natural hair once in a while!

6. Trim your hair every 3 months. No matter how much or little we do to our hair on a daily basis, it always manages to get damaged one way or another between haircuts. When the ends of our hair begin to split, they eventually break off if they are not treated. The longer we wait to cut our hair, the more damage our hair will encounter, leading us forced to trim more hair than we wanted. Getting frequent trims (0.5"-1.0") will keep our ends healthier, and help our hair grow longer faster!

Everything About Acne! - Part 2

Alright, so our last post discussed the basic need-to-know information about what acne is, how it's formed, and the different factors that contribute to the cause of it. So since we learned that nearly everyone will be affected by acne one way or another during their life, we might as well see what kind of treatments we have to choose from to control and get rid of it!

The first thing you need to know is that everyone's acne and skin is different, so different treatments that work for some people, may not work as well for others. Lucky for us, there are several options to choose from so lets see what they are! Researching acne treatments can seem overwhelming so I'll try to break it down for you guys as simple as possible. There are hundreds of options to choose from, but like i mentioned earlier, not everyone has the same type of skin and acne, so different styles of treatments will work better than others.

Alcohol Solution Products: Products containing alcohol are best suited for people with oily skin that is not very sensitive, as it will help dry out the skin (eliminate oil), won't add excess moisture, and can tend to be irritating on fragile skin types.
Aqueous Solutions: If you read the word aqueous, and automatically thought of water, you have the right idea as these type of solutions are water-based. They are best for normal to dry skin (very moisturising) types and even suitable for sensitive skin as it's not known to be irritating because they are sans-alcohol.
Creams: Creamy products are great for normal to oily skin as they do not have a greasy texture, and they absorb into the skin quickly. It's another product that's good for sensitive skin as it is very soothing on the skin.
Gels: Gels are a popular choice for normal to oily skin as well, as they are used as a spot treatment, rather than a product that is applied over the whole face like most of the other options. This is a good option for people with minimal acne because you typically only apply it when a blemish occurs.
Lotions: Lotions is the most popular type of treatment as there are so many different types, and they can suit every skin type equally well. Most lotions will display which type of skin they are best suited for on the label so keep that in mind if you would like to pursue this treatment style.
Ointment: If you suffer from very oily skin, ointments would most likely be the worst option for you as they tend to be very greasy, which will only add moisture and increase the amount of oil your skin will produce. This products better suited for very dry skin that needs as much moisture as it can get a hold of.

So since you ladies have a better idea of how to treat your acne, and what product types will best suit your skin type, I've decided to post another video from the YouTube guru DiamondsAndHeels14 where she demonstrates her amazing foundation routine to cover up her acne while she's in the process of treating it.

Everything About Acne! - Part 1

Whether you get the occasional pimple at that time of the month, or receive frequent visits from blemishes, you probably aren't a fan of acne. It's an unfortunate thing that everyone will experience to some extent, at one point in their lives. Since we all will, have, or are witnessing some form of blemishes on our skin, why not learn how it's formed, and how to prevent it?

Acne, also referred to as it's medical name of Acne Vulgaris, is the over production of oil that leads to clogged pores, which results in pimples, nodules, cysts, and blackheads. Though the most popular place for acne to appear is the face, blemishes can appear allover the body. When skin cells, oil, or hair clump together, they can form a hard plug in our pores which blocks our skin from breathing. The bacteria that forms and grows in our pores results in swelling, which breaks down the plug, and voila! You see a pimple. But blemishes don't just appear over night. It can take over a week for acne to form and become visible. And before we can put an end to acne, we've got to go back to the beginning.

So we've already established that the formation of blemishes is caused by clogged pores, but their are several factors that are linked to acne as well. Our genes have a lot to do with the type of skin we have, which is why some people may experience worse acne than others. Another factor is our hormones, which are constantly changing due to our mentural cycles, puberty, and even pregnancy and menopause, which all can increase oil production in our skin, triggering breakouts. Our hygiene plays a large roll, because sweat is a huge factor for bacterial growth and clogging pores, which leaves our skin dirty and unable to breathe. Other factors such as our stress levels, certain medications, the environment, cosmetics, and even our diet, can all be potential triggers to provoking blemishes.

So I hope this post helped you understand and learn a few new things about what acne is, how it forms, and potential reasons why it forms. Below is a video I attached from one of my favourite YouTube users who has 10 useful tips and tricks for dealing with acne to conclude the post. Enjoy!

Everything About Basic Nail Care!

Much like a necklace, or a beautiful ring, our nails can be a bold accessory to any outfit. However, many women don't notice how much a difference proper nail care can affect the appearance of our hands and nails. Our hands and nails crave attention and affection as well as the rest of our body so it's time we give them a little more! This post will explain 3 basic tips for better nail care, as well as a bonus video with a new nail trend that has become popular called nail marbling.

3 Basic Nail Care Tips:
     1. Protect: One of the main tips for achieving healthier nails is preventing them from damage. The less damage our nails encounter, the better chance they have to become healthy, and more importantly, stay healthy. Preventing damage can include things such as avoiding leaving our nails in water too long, because too much moisture can weaken our nails, avoiding harsh chemicals near our nails, and avoid using nails as tools to open cans, containers, and bottles.
     2. Polish: Since can't always protect and control how much our nails come in contact with moisture, chemicals, and minor damage all the time, one way to help shield them is wearing nail polish. Whether it's a clear strengthening polish, or a bright colour to accessorise your outfit, a layer (or two) of nail polish can provide a useful layer of protection and even healthy ingredients to help achieve better nails. However, avoid painting your nails more than once a week because too much nail polish and polish remover will overpower our delicate nails.
      3. Prevent: If you know you will be engaging in activities where your nails will be encountering water or chemicals for a lengthy period of time, such as gardening and washing dishes, it's important to wear gloves if possible. Our diet also has a lot do with our nails health so eating foods that contain a lot of calcium, protein, and vitamin E will be exceptionally useful to their health and appearance. Moisturising and massages our hands helps the blood flow in our hands and fingers to remain active, and keeping our nails at a decent length will prevent them from breaking, getting caught, and attracting dirt.

As promised, here's a how-to video by YouTube user MissJenFabulous to show you guys how to achieve a cool nail marble manicure while you take care of your nails and are on your way to healthier nail care!

Everything About Your Perfect Haircut!

When it comes to ladies and their hair, some are definitely a lot more adventurous then others. I'm sure we all know someone who has a new haircut or colour every time you see them, as well as the friend who is still rocking the exact same hair from the 80's. No matter how often you change your hairstyle, it's important to understand that not every style will suit every woman the same! We all have different face shapes, different face features, different hair types and different skin tones that will effect how a specific style will look. If you're looking for a new hairstyle, or know someone who is, here are a few ideas to suit any woman!

The Pixie Cut (As seen on Michelle Williams)

This hairstyle is good for woman who do not like spending a lot of time on their hair in the morning, and prefer keeping their hair fairly short. It's best suited for woman with a round face shape, but is very flexible with others as well. It's a hairstyle also best for woman who have naturally straight hair. This style requires a lot of keep up as it needs to be re-cut every 4-5 weeks to keep its pixie shape.

The Medium Length Layered Cut (As seen on Jennifer Aniston)

This hairstyle is good for woman who don't mind spending time on their hair everyday, but don't want to make it their priority. This style gives woman a decent length (typically just below the shoulders), so they don't have to worry about it being to short. It's long enough to straighten or curl, depending on your mood. This hairstyle is best suited for woman with heart shaped faces, and requires trims ever 6 weeks to prevent split ends.

The Long Length Cut (As seen on Kim Kardashian)

This hairstyle is good for woman who just love doing their hair and will spend all day doing so to get the perfect look. Woman who are terrified of the thought of having their haircut anywhere near their shoulders will definitely love this hairstyle. This style is suitable for woman with thicker hair, and any face shape. With hair this length you can pretty much try any look, such as straight looks, wavy looks, curly looks, as well as up dos!

Below is a link to a website that specializes in finding woman their absolute perfect hairstyle (cut and colour included). All you have to do is enter your information such as your skin tone, eye colour, hair length and texture, and they will use all of the info to find your best suited look!
